November 18th-December 1st: To the Surface

My apologies for a late forecast! We will start off with this past Friday the 24th, when Mercury entered the constellation of Sagittarius. Mercury will only transit the archer’s domain for a week and a half or so before becoming retrograde and moving back into Scorpio. The brief stop into Sagittarius will increase curiosity and impulsiveness. Mercury in Sagittarius expands the need for information about those subjects that interest us. It is not necessarily a traditional scholarly desire, and actually can be more useful when applied toward education outside the classroom. We may find ourselves called to learn more about other cultures and religions. Sagittarius represents the guru (ruled by Jupiter, whose Sanskrit name is actually “Guru”) and so teaching is emphasized over the next week or two. We may find ourselves learning from unlikely people or situations, and being teachers in our own right. The retrograde will take us back into more self-contained studies, so over the next week or two it may be more productive to work with others and increase communication to accomplish more.

On Sunday the 26th, Venus enters Scorpio. This is an intense placement for the planet of love and beauty, and intensifies romantic connections during the transit, which lasts until December 20th. Scorpio draws us together powerfully, and sometimes for reasons which we can’t logically understand. It works under the surface and behind the scenes, and so may be more subtle (though the intensity of feelings will not be!). We lose sight of Venus as she transits Scorpio, dipping below the horizon and disappearing out of sight for the northern hemisphere by the beginning of December. This is a perfect representation of the Scorpio energy. It prefers to stay hidden and secretive. The intensity of connections we experience this month may be difficult to communicate to others. Jealousy may come up for some. Sharing will be a challenge.

On Monday the 27th, Mars will transit the star Spica in the Virgo constellation. This conjunction is an interesting one, as Spica is placed on the ear of wheat in the virgin maiden’s hand. This star represents the harvest, the provider of our needs here on the physical plane. The work we have put in will come back to us manifest. As Mars crosses Spica’s domain, we have a chance to reap great material rewards, but only for the work we have put in. Spica does not give lucky breaks, but instead carries the harvest to those who have toiled the fields long and hard. This could come about as financial or material abundance, or good news of health or fertility. This is a particularly fertile day for those who wish to become pregnant.

On Wednesday the 29th, asteroid 7 Iris will be visible in the evening sky in the constellation of Aries. You will be able to see this asteroid, which is the fourth brightest in the asteroid belt that sits between Mars and Jupiter, to the east of star Arietis. Iris will be visible in the sky for the next several days. Mythologically speaking, Iris is the rainbow goddess in Greek lore, who served as Hera’s messenger. She brought forth water from the river Styx which, when consumed, would serve as a truth serum. Astrologically, this is a period when lies may come to the surface and the truth will be revealed. Active punishment may not occur, since Iris is the bringer of clarity and not of justice. Be careful in your dealings this week and try to choose honesty over misdirection. Mars enters Libra on Thursday the 30th, which is the sign of balance and judicial systems. This transit coupled with the pronounced appearance of 7 Iris suggests that long-standing or complicated lies are apt to come to the surface and will unravel this week.

Mars will transit Libra from the 30th until January 16th. Mars is joining Jupiter in Libra, and this pairing is dynamic. Partnership is required as we move through the next month, as our actions will impact more than just ourselves even if we attempt to keep others uninvolved. Action and activity need to be balanced. If we put too much attention on one area of our lives, we will really feel the excess in a more extreme way than usual. This may require some multi-tasking, which is
why it will be especially helpful to team up with another person or a small group to get things done.
